Reading Response | A Brief History of Type

Some of the things that I found interesting about the article were the categories of which several typefaces fall upon (ex. Baskerville falls under Transitional) as well as knowing what "Blackletter", "Fat Faces", and "Synthesis" refers to. Also, I like the fact that I got a bit of a history lesson in how printing and typesetting evolved/began and how the "standards" of working with type came to be..

Sketches + Research

Found some awesome websites regarding the direction of my experimental typeface project. I want to do a victorian-esque motif/embellishment typeface.

Here are the sites I found helpful in my research:

Designing with Type

Here are 10 different typefaces that I discovered on my typeface scavenger hunt. Some of these really struck out to me especially "Cooper BT". I really like the rounded, boldness of it. The typeface "Premier" also stood out due to the thinness, simple line, and cleanness of the typeface, as well as the slanted "s", which I believe gives the typeface a nice, but very special touch.

A Few things..

Some of my favorite typefaces include Lubalin Graph, ITC Avant Garde Gothic, Futura, University Roman, and Palatino.

The Things that I am excited for is learning about type in terms of the individual designers, the history, how type is used, and the elements of type that make it unique and special in design. I am also excited about the types of projects that we will do that evolves around typography.

The books/magazines I like are graphic novels, Japanese fashion magazines, and gaming magazines.

My favorite sites include www.deviantart.com, www.notebookreview.com, www.underconsideration.com, www.newegg.com, www.lunasea.jp, and www.gonzo.co.jp
